My sense is that it has been a way for people to learn concrete ways to make campus safer, which is giving people hope that things can be different. My hope is that the majority of people on campus recognize that they have a role to play in keeping people safe, and to do so. All rights reserved. This document is a compendium of how we have used the measures of bystander attitudes and behaviors that we have developed here at Prevention Innovations Research Center. First and foremost, we want students, faculty, and staff to have the skills to notice a potentially concerning situation, and then to be able to intervene safely and effectively in the moment. We will present findings of a study of both barriers and facilitators of helping behavior in the context of sexual violence among first-semester college students. We always tell people that their safety is just as important as the person in harms way. Community interventions were defined as interventional programs that included community-based intervention alone or community intervention combined with changes in health services. The question as to why we do this is complex and intriguing. Questions that emerge will likely range from implementation of techniques, to a review of specialized scenarios, to an exploration of the root of the issues. We do want to help them brainstorm other options and share their wisdom with the group. Bystander Intervention is based on the fact that people make decisions and continue behaviors based on the reactions they get from others.
